My Conversations with Gemini… Part 1

Earlier today, I caught myself doing that thing where I stare at a half-finished sentence and think, Come on… I know what I mean—I just can’t quite land it. So, I opened Gemini, asked for a nudge, and then paused (again) to notice how quickly this has become part of my writing process.

Sometimes I catch myself treating AI like a person—reading a suggestion like it’s an “opinion”—and then I have to laugh and come back to my gut. I’ll take the idea, rewrite it in my own voice, and still do a final pass myself. (And yes—at this exact moment, I’m using Copilot.)

In this series, I’ll share what I’m learning as I test-drive AI in real life—the helpful parts, the awkward parts, and the boundaries I’m still figuring out.

Yes, I use AI.

I’m sure you’re not surprised.

No, I haven’t used Claude.

Yes, I’ve used ChatGPT.

Yes, I’ve used Copilot.

How many language models are there? I’m losing track.

I shared this earlier today during an International Coaching Week conversation.

I got through grad school, undergrad, and most of my professional career without AI. But if I need a quick grammar check for my newsletter, a starting point for a sales strategy, a template, or I’m simply on a time crunch — sure, I’ll ask Gemini. It’s the most convenient model for me to use.

Convenient doesn’t mean consequence-free, though.

Do I want the bias that can come baked into AI language models? No, I don’t.

Have I heard some weird things about AI in the workplace? Yes. And the reminder I keep coming back to is this: it’s not a team member; it’s a tool—or at least, that’s what I keep hearing (and what I’m trying to remember).

Is it becoming a headache to keep up with AI? Yes, it is.

How do you use AI? Which models do you reach for? Or… are you already over it? I’m there sometimes too.

Sound off!
