I am busy but I’m not busy

I am busy but I’m not busy

In a conversation today with the owner of Eyewear On The Go, these exact words sat with me.

Have we normalized ourselves back into the “go go go” so much that we don’t know when to breathe? That’s not even busy, that’s another level.

Busy means tasks are completed, projects are finished on time or will be on time and priorities are met so we don’t procrastinate or, admit the impediments to why procrastination is happening, fix them and move on. At my last job, the saying was “move it towards the finish line” to actually move on to what was next. There is room to breathe here.

If you’re running around so much that you don’t have time to breathe, then are you just overwhelmed or as my brother would say, “slammed” and barely coming up for air?

How is it normal to be that overwhelmed? In what world is that normal?

The next time you say, “I’m busy” here’s my call to action for you:

1) Ask yourself, am I breathing or I barely can come up for air?

2) Then ask yourself, what needs to change, only if it should!

3) If it doesn’t need to change, then are you living with purpose or just floating?

As the month winds down and we head into the end of the year, recalibrate and refocus, do not wait for January 1, 2026 to ask these questions.

The time is now, not tomorrow and not the future. Comment below for your questions.
